Again discuss smoking in casinos - Mass senators

A few senators are trying to overturn a ban on smoking in planned casinos as the Massachusetts Legislature continues dispute on expanded gambling.

The Senate was resuming argue Monday on a suggestion to license three resort-style casinos.

The debate began last Wednesday, and a day later, senators voted for a ban on smoking in the casinos by a 24-15 vote. The casino legislation has call for allow smoke in 25 percent of the gaming area.

Supporters of the prohibit said it would help continue public health gains the state had made since the passage of a 2004 law banning smoking in workplaces, restaurants and bars.

Other legislators argue that allowing smoking will enable Massachusetts casinos to try to win with casinos in nearest states.
